Artistic Swimming

Artistic swimming (also known as synchro) is a combination of gymnastics, acrobatics, dance and swimming and requires coordination, flexibility, stamina and team spirit.

Our coaches take great care to teach artistic swimming skills in a fun way and we believe in starting early with swimming to music.

Junior artistic swimming

Our junior section is 3 years old and our swimmers are practising for artistic swimming grades 1 and 2. We took part in the Sussex Championships with great success. The Brighton Festival Fringe Show in May is a big part of our calendar.

We expect swimmers to attend all sessions during term time.

Kit list:

  • Pool session: one-piece swimsuit, hat (compulsory), goggles, nose clip, towel

  • Land session: t-shirt, shorts, trainers, mat, flexi band

Sessions are held at the Prince Regent Swimming Complex on Sundays from 09:00 to 11:15.

We currently are the largest Masters artistic swimming club in England. We have swimmers aged 18-60+ years, ranging in ability from beginners to experienced. Our swimmers take part in the different disciplines of solo, duet, team and combination routine in the annual Swim England National Masters Championships and various other national and international events. The annual Brighton Festival Fringe Show is our biggest event.

Artistic swimming is great fun, although it is one of the most difficult sports as it is a combination of gymnastics, acrobatics, dance and swimming – a lot of the time without breathing. We have great fun with the music themes and make sure that there is a space for everyone in one of the teams. Our beginners’ combination routine won Gold at the 2019 National Masters.

Not everyone can attend every session, some people can commit to twice and others to once a week. The beginners’ session is usually on Mondays 7-8. We expect regular attendance whilst acknowledging that we all have family lives.

  • Experienced artistic swimmers are welcome to join anytime. Contact us below.

  • Beginners: anyone who is able to swim for 20 minutes continuously and is confident to roll backwards in the water is welcome to come along and give artistic swimming a go. We usually start a new course for beginners in May and September. Please contact us below for more details.

Kit list:

  • Pool session: one-piece swimsuit, hat (compulsory), goggles, nose clip, towel

  • Land session: t-shirt, shorts, trainers, mat, flexi band (we are currently not running land sessions)
